Therapy
As I witness my clients with a soft heart I am reminded that we all need this; to be held in a space of safety and connection so that we may find gentleness with our deepest suffering. So quick are we to infuse our minds with judgement, shame, blame and fear, as if they will protect us from the pain we know. A strong defense is good for survival, but what happens when our defenses are all we know and trust? When the crisis has passed we need what we hesitate to admit- the kind hand and steady shoulder of another.
My approach to therapy is guided by three models:
- Internal Family Systems (IFS), developed by Richard Schwartz
- EMDR, developed by Francine Shapiro
- Polyvagal Theory, developed by Steve Porges
- Mindfulness meditation practice (I am certified through MNDFL as a Mindfulness Instructor)
